The DR Committee has decided to take an approach for this disaster that will address the immediate need and allow many of you who have an interest in assisting to do so with the confidence that you will know who you are helping and to what extent.
The H.O.G. recovery plan will employ an “Adopt a Church” approach, where any congregation in the U.S., or any individual, for that matter, may select a church from the list of hurricane victims identified by the DR Team in Jamaica and direct their contribution to that congregation to the church and project selected. The list of identified churches has been submitted to the DR by the country superintendent, who has also provided an estimate of the cost to repair or restore the property to a usable level. It will be up to the congregations here or the individual who wants to contribute to decide the extent to which they wish to assist. Once that is done, the website will provide the appropriate payment mechanism, such as Venmo, CashApp, or Zelle, etc., which will be directed to our Finance Department with the necessary notation indicating where the contribution is to be applied.
Most of our churches in Jamaica have lost physical property, including roofs, building contents, and electronic equipment. One church (Mt. Salem) was totally destroyed and will need to be rebuilt. Although the total number of churches impacted currently reaches a total of eleven (11), it is the grace of God that has spared us from any loss of life or serious injury. To God be the glory!
If you would like to make a contribution to help restore a church, please select the congregation you wish to support from the list provided. The name of each Jamaican church affected by the storm is listed and accompanied by a link that directs you to a description and/or images of the losses incurred, further directing you to the corresponding contributions page if desired. Please don’t forget to include your name or the name of the organization making the contribution, along with your email address. This information will be provided to the DRC in both the US and Jamaica, allowing the DR Committee to properly identify the source. The saints in Jamaica and the leadership of the House of God would like to express their sincere gratitude in advance for your love and concern. attitude in advance for your love and concern.
